R. Joseph Wilson, a financial professional for over 40 years, began his career in accounting after attending Texas Tech University. At 21, he managed the financial functions for The Lubbock Hilton Hotel, as the youngest hotel controller in the country. Joseph moved to Chicago in 1982 in order to trade the most volatile markets in the world. He became a “student of the markets” by beginning on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange as a runner. He subsequently started Express Trading Company, the only brokerage firm at the time to offer securities and commodities on a discount basis. Selling Express Trading allowed him to become a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, trading his own risk capital for a living as a professional floor trader ( a local) in the S&P 500 futures pit. Family health circumstances necessitated a relocation for the Wilsons to Cincinnati in order to be near relatives, where Joseph began his financial planning practice in 1990.

As a trader with over 35 years of trading experience, Joseph’s primary focus is on risk management and the emotional well-being of his clients. To that end, he uses his unique experience along with technical tools such as algorithms, Fibonacci analysis and pattern recognition studies. His article entitled “Into the Pit”, which captured the sights and sounds of his first day as a floor trader, was published in Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities. Joseph enjoys reading history, philosophy and is currently studying Latin.
